Hunting and Fishing is very popular in Dundy County. Cast a line at our very own Rock Creek State Lake or drive a short distance to one of our other area lakes for water skiing and fishing fun.

Rock Creek State Recreation Area

One of the best kept secrets in the state of Nebraska is the Rock Creek State Recreation Area. Rock Creek SRA is located only a few miles northwest of Parks, Nebraska and it's only about a 20 minute drive from Benkelman. Rock Creek SRA is a 50-acre lake with approximately 54 acres of land. The area offers camping, hiking, boating, fishing, and picnicking. There are plenty of non-designated camping areas with picnic tables and fire pits. Mule deer and wild turkeys frequent the camp sites so if fishing isn't your thing, come and enjoy the wildlife.

Rock Creek SRA was the site of a extensive renovation project in which the lake was drained and dredged. Fishing docks and peninsulas were also added to enhance the overall fishing experience. Over the years the lake has recovered rapidly and the once modest sized fish are now attracting anglers from all over the tri-state area. In the spring of 2008, local fisherman have reported landing many 19, 20 and even monster 22 inch large mouth bass! Of course the fishing stories vary depending who you talk to, but the word is Rock Creek State Recreation Area is the place to be!

Rock Creek State Fish Hatchery

Rock Creek State Fish Hatchery is located 7 miles northwest of Parks, Nebraska at the headwaters of Rock Creek State Recreation Area. Founded at it's current location in 1924 because of the abundant cold water spring flow, it is one of five state fish hatcheries operated by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Spring flow of approximately 2500 gallons per minute of 57° F water allows Rock Creek Hatchery to continue to be ideal for the production of cold and warm water fish species. Approximately 42 acre feet of water is permitted by the Nebraska Department of Water Resources for use in the production of fish. Rock Creek Hatchery annually produces rainbow and brown trout, striped bass hybrids (wipers), bluegill, bluegill green sunfish hybrids, rock bass, red ear sunfish, and grass carp.
